The NYT: 12% is a "Significant Number" of Americans

If 12% of the American people said that aliens were real, they would be called "a slim minority of nuts."

But when 12% agree that the federal gas tax should be raised, the dunces at The New York Times believe they are a "significant" number of people.

Uh, no, they are not.

Americans Are Cautiously Open to Gas Tax Rise, Poll Shows

Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to a higher federal gasoline tax, but a significant number would go along with an increase if it reduced global warming or made the United States less dependent on foreign oil, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

Eighty-five percent of the 1,018 adults polled opposed an increase in the federal gasoline tax, suggesting that politicians have good reason to steer away from so unpopular a measure. But 55 percent said they would support an increase in the tax, which has been 18.4 cents a gallon since 1993, if it did in fact reduce dependence on foreign oil. Fifty-nine percent were in favor if the result was less gasoline consumption and less global warming. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

How interesting - 85% oppose raising the tax, but if you "couch" it in new terms (it will help this, it will help that), then support goes up.

Of course, the nuts behind the poll could have asked, "If dropping the tax means more money in your pocket, should we do it?" and gotten a 90% agreement. So, it all depends on how you ask the question.

The Times, however, titles the story, "Americans Are Cautiously Open to Gas Tax Rise, Poll Shows."

The real title should be, "Americans Widely Against Raise in Federal Gas Tax."

The massive protests in the Muslim world against the Danish cartoons have helped Denmark, as also Europe, have a better understanding of, and respect for, Islam, said the Danish Consul in Dubai, Thomas Bay, yesterday.

“We have to solve this matter through dialogue; the outcome of this controversy is that it facilitated a deeper dialogue', he told your favourite No. 1 newspaper Khaleej Times.

“We Europeans have realised that we can say anything to Muslims and they do not feel bad as long as we don't touch upon the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). This is the lesson we learned from this cartoon issue. The importance of the Prophet in the minds and hearts of Muslims must be fully understood', he said.

IBD: Saddam HAD Weapons of Mass Destruction

The release of the so-called "Saddam Tapes" last week drew a gigantic YAWN from the MSM, because, for them, any proof that Saddam Hussein did have WMD is a realization that George Bush was right, and the morons who run the MSM cannot have that kind of truth shoved on them. Even ABC News, which showed some excerpts of the tapes on "Nightline," quickly stopped mentioning them and now not even a peep is heard from their side of the media.

Of course, there are other forms of media now - and they continue to watch this growing story and the truth it tells: that Saddam not only had WMD, but that he was carefully waiting for the UN sanctions regime to end so that he could restart the majority of his WMD programs, and that he was planning a terror attack on the US.

Saddam Had WMD

Now that Leno and Letterman have had their way with Vice President Cheney's hunting accident and the port controversy, maybe we can get back to something really important — like Saddam's WMD program.

Yes, the linchpin of opposition to the Iraq War — never really strong to begin with — has taken some real hits in recent weeks. And "Bush lied" — the anti-war mantra about the president, Saddam Hussein and weapons of mass destruction — looks the most battered.

Inconveniently for critics of the war, Saddam made tapes in his version of the Oval Office. These tapes landed in the hands of American intelligence and were recently aired publicly.

The first 12 hours of the tapes — there are hundreds more waiting to be translated — are damning, to say the least. They show conclusively that Bush didn't lie when he cited Saddam's WMD plans as one of the big reasons for taking the dictator out.

Nobody disputes the tapes' authenticity. On them, Saddam talks openly of programs involving biological, chemical and, yes, nuclear weapons.

War foes have long asserted that Saddam halted his WMD programs in the wake of his defeat in the first Gulf War in 1991. Saddam's abandonment of WMD programs was confirmed by subsequent U.N. inspections.

Again, not true. In a tape dating to April 1995, Saddam and several aides discuss the fact that U.N. inspectors had found traces of Iraq's biological weapons program. On the tape, Hussein Kamel, Saddam's son-in-law, is heard gloating about fooling the inspectors.

"We did not reveal all that we have," he says. "Not the type of weapons, not the volume of the materials we imported, not the volume of the production we told them about, not the volume of use. None of this was correct."

There's more. Indeed, as late as 2000, Saddam can be heard in his office talking with Iraqi scientists about his ongoing plans to build a nuclear device. At one point, he discusses Iraq's plasma uranium program — something that was missed entirely by U.N. weapons inspectors combing Iraq for WMD.

This is particularly troubling, since it indicates an active, ongoing attempt by Saddam to build an Iraqi nuclear bomb.

As we always like to say: Read the whole thing, as long as the link and story remain there.

Liberals continue to cling to their canard of "Saddam was no threat - these tapes prove nothing."

House Republicans say there are “seven dirty words” you can never say when talking about the Democrats’ budget this year in Olympia.

Among the forbidden phrases: “Shell game.” “Lack of honesty with taxpayers.” “Tax-and-spend liberal.” “It’s not truthful to say this money is being put into reserve.”

Carlin wasn’t joking about the words not allowed on TV. And it appears the GOP isn’t joking, either.

Republican news releases using the forbidden phrases were removed from Web sites and edited this week by order of the House Chief Clerk’s Office and its legal counsel.

The reason: The words impugned the motives of the other party’s members at taxpayer expense, House Chief Clerk Rich Nafziger said Thursday. “You can’t use taxpayers’ dollars to sling mud.”

But Rep. John Serben, R- Spokane, called it censorship.

Uh, Mr. Serben, it is censorship.

And it is disgusting.

A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his "wife", after he was caught having sex with the animal.

The goat's owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders.

They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi.

"We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together," Mr Alifi said.

It feels good to be proven right.

BBC Correspondent Faces the Truth: The American Left is Pathetic

Justin Webb, the BBC correspondent in the US, is perhaps one of the worst persons to be called "journalist" (of course, this excludes David "French" Gregory, who makes Webb look like a Pulitzer-prize winner).

However, even Webb faced up to reality when he discussed how the American Left has taken a shit and dropped dead. Of course, he clouds it in nice talk, but if you read the whole thing, you will see that Webb is saying, loud and clear, "These fools are dead. Period."

Democrats fail to find a message

But the stickers which have caught my attention and which I think are part of a noteworthy political phenomenon here are those that say, in bold letters, "Re-defeat George Bush".

These, of course, refer to the election of 2000 in which more Americans voted for Al Gore, but which was awarded to Mr Bush by the Supreme Court after that voting snafu in Florida.

The stickers were part of the campaign of 2004, but were answered, it seems to me, by the result of that election.

The nation plainly elected Mr Bush - he won more than 50% of the vote - something Bill Clinton never managed.

So why is it that Democrats can't move on? The answer is that they don't know where to go.

On the Iraq war, for instance.

Are they for it or against it?

When it goes badly they are against it, but in the few months last year when elections were first held in Iraq they were rather for it.

Breaking News: Valerie Plame Leaker Identified, Lewis Libby Targeted

The big bruhaha last year (and since 2003) was "who outed CIA undercover operative Valerie Plame," even though she was not outed, not undercover, and not an operative. VP Dick Cheney's chief of staff, Irving Lewis "Scooter" Libby, has been indicted for allegedly lying about when he heard her name. Of course, that is not why Special investigator Patrick Fitzgerald was allowed to investgate this faux story - he was told to find the leaker.

Apparently, according to just released court papers, he has. And it is not Libby.

Identity of Official to Be Kept From Libby

Former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, charged with perjury in the CIA leak case, cannot be told the identity of another government official who is said to have told reporters about a CIA operative's identity, a federal judge ruled Friday.

At the same time, U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton said Libby could have copies of notes he took during an 11-month period in 2003 and 2004 while serving as chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.

The judge also set the stage for a showdown in late April over the defense's plans to subpoena reporters and news organizations for notes and other documents in the leak of Valerie Plame's identity.

During a hearing Friday afternoon, Walton said Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald can keep secret the other government official's identity because that person has not been charged and has a right to privacy.

Wait - the person has been found, but they have not been charged? And they have "a right to privacy"?

Get this straight: someone leaked the name, but they have not been charged. Libby is charged with lying about when he heard about the name.

In a Stunning Turn of Events, Right and Left Unite to Condemn the Timidity of the American Media

The MSM in America seems to find it most appropriate to use every epithet against President Bush, call those to the right of Alec Baldwin names, or to dismiss Republicans out of hand. A Failure of the Press

There was a time when the press was the strongest guardian of free expression in this democracy. Stories and celebrations of intrepid and courageous reporters are many within the press corps. Cases such as New York Times v. Sullivan in the 1960s were litigated so that the press could report on and examine public officials with the unfettered reporting a free people deserved. In the 1970s the Pentagon Papers case reaffirmed the proposition that issues of public importance were fully protected by the First Amendment.

The mass media that backed the plaintiffs in these cases understood that not only did a free press have a right to report on critical issues and people of the day but that citizens had a right to know about those issues and people. The mass media understood another thing: They had more than a right; they had a duty to report.

We two come from different political and philosophical perspectives, but on this we agree: Over the past few weeks, the press has betrayed not only its duties but its responsibilities. To our knowledge, only three print newspapers have followed their true calling: the Austin American-Statesman, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the New York Sun. What have they done? They simply printed cartoons that were at the center of widespread turmoil among Muslims over depictions of the prophet Muhammad. These papers did their duty.

PM backs Muslim comments

Prime Minister John Howard has refused Muslim calls to censure Treasurer Peter Costello over comments he made about Islamic extremists.

And Mr Costello has challenged Muslim leaders to pledge their allegiance to Australia before they criticise him over his comments about citizenship.

Muslim leaders have called for Mr Howard to censure Mr Costello over his speech last night to the Sydney Institute in which he said anyone who believed Islamic sharia law could co-exist with Australian law should move to a country where they felt more comfortable.

Islamic Friendship Association president Keysar Trad said Mr Costello had unfairly singled out Muslims and was promoting division and Islamophobia.

But Mr Howard said Mr Costello's comments were "fundamentally accurate".

"He's not trying to stir up hostilities with Islamic people any more than I was when I made some comments three days before the Cronulla riots," Mr Howard told Southern Cross Broadcasting in Melbourne.

Mr Costello said Muslim leaders should be pledging themselves and their followers to Australian values before they started criticising him.

"Rather than try and censure me ... they should make a clear statement that they subscribe to all of these views - that they are loyal to Australia, they respect the rights and liberties of others, they believe in democratic government and they believe that all Australians should live unequivocally under the one law made by the Australian parliament - and endorse these values and recommend them to their followers," Mr Costello told Southern Cross Broadcasting.

Cheers to Costello, and to Howard. These are men of courage, who do not bend to Islamic nutjobs. They should applauded worldwide.

Militants vow revenge after Israel kills 2 gunmen

GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli soldiers shot dead two Palestinian militants planting bombs along the Israeli border on Friday, drawing vows of revenge from supporters and members of the Islamist group Hamas as it prepared to form a government.

"Martyrs rest in peace and we will continue the struggle," thousands of Hamas supporters chanted as they fired into the air at funerals for the two militants killed in Gaza overnight, including the son of a newly-elected Hamas member of parliament.

Elsewhere in Gaza, a top Hamas bombmaker died when a device blew up as he was training militants to prepare explosives.

"Hamas is continuing to train the mujahideen in order to pursue their task of jihad," said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri.

Well, there you have it - "martyrs rest in peace."

Three more Palestinians shot dead in West Bank

NABLUS, West Bank (AFP) - Three more Palestinians were killed by Israeli troops during an army incursion into the Nablus region of the northern West Bank, medical sources said.

The three Palestinians died inside a house that was surrounded by Israeli troops and inside which various explosions were heard, the sources said.

They all belonged to the radical Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a nebulous faction loosely affiliated to Palestinian Authority president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah party.

Hey - these terrorists are only a "nebulous faction."

We certainly feel better. Imagine if they were REAL terrorists using REAL bombs and REAL explosives! People could get hurt!

Sweden Kisses Islamic Ass, Sends More Funds to Hamas Terrorists

While the rest of the civilized world is cutting off the Palestinians and their new terrorist government, Sweden, whose desire to appease the worst Islamic fanatics knows no bounds, has decided to increase their funding of terrorism.

And who do they blame for Hamas? Israel.

Sweden increases Palestinian aid

Sweden's state-run aid group on Monday pledged more than five million euros in additional aid to the Palestinian territories as Israel and the United States halted much of their funding following Hamas's election victory.

"The humanitarian situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip has worsened," the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) said in a statement, adding that it would provide 50 million kronor (6.4 million dollars) to the United Nations' aid programs there.

In 2005, SIDA donated nearly 100 million kronor to the Palestinian territories, a spokesman for the group told AFP.

The additional aid was necessary since Israel was not living up to its responsibility as an occupying power, Peter Lundberg of SIDA's humanitarian unit said in a statement.

"According to the fourth Geneva convention, the occupying power has a particular responsibility to support and ensure the human dignity of the occupied," he said.

"Since Israel is not living up to its responsibility under international law, large parts of the Palestinian population are now completely dependent on international humanitarian aid," Lundberg added.

Yep, you gotta "ensure the dignity" of a people who elect terrorists as their leaders. Yep. Yep.

Since President Bush said that if you stand with terrorists that you are a terrorist, Sweden is now officially a terrorist state. The US government, and the American people, should boycott Sweden. Cut off the little appeasing fuckers, and now.

BBC rules on impartiality were broken during a report on the Ten O'Clock News, the corporation's governors said.

The complaint surrounded Guto Harri's report about the night's edition of Question Time, a month before the General Election last year.

Governors said rules were broken when Harri said the then Conservative leader was booed, but did not mention the same thing had happened to Tony Blair.

The omission breached BBC guidelines on accuracy and impartiality, they ruled.

And, unless you miss it, the story tells us quite happily that the thug who was behind this lie "is now the BBC's North American correspondent."

He must be working hand-in-hand with David "French" Gregory of NBC.

Now, why is Guto Harri not being fired, or at least recalled? Why is he still working?

The political scene is so chaotic that Republicans believe they could win the gerrymandered Democratic seat.

US House votes to withhold Palestinian aid

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to withhold direct US foreign aid from the Palestinian Authority unless Hamas revokes its call for the destruction of Israel.

Lawmakers in the lower chamber of the US Congress approved the measure by a voice vote of 418 to one. The Senate has yet to vote on the measure.

The move came as the White House considers cutting aid to the Hamas-led Palestinian government, after the militant Islamist organization won a shock landslide victory in Palestinian legislative elections on January 25.

The US administration has publicly and privately warned of possible cuts in US assistance unless the group abandons violence.

No word on who the 1 moron was who voted against this measure - as soon as we find out, we will post this information.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- About a fifth of Americans think federal agents have listened in on their phone calls, a CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll released Tuesday suggests.

Twenty-one percent of the 1,000 adults who replied to the survey conducted Thursday through Sunday said it was very likely or somewhat likely their conversations had been wiretapped, while 52 percent said it was not at all likely.

Twenty-four percent said it was not too likely.

The sampling error for the question was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

A leading imam in the mosque where the July 7 bombers worshipped has hailed their terrorist attack on London as a “good” act in a secretly taped conversation with an undercover reporter.

Hamid Ali, spiritual leader of the mosque in West Yorkshire, said it had forced people to take notice when peaceful meetings and conferences had no impact.

He also praised the bombers as the “children” of Abdullah al-Faisal, a firebrand Muslim cleric, who was convicted of inciting murder and racial hatred in 2003.

Ali revealed that the leader of the London suicide bombers had attended sermons in Yorkshire by al-Faisal and tapes of al-Faisal’s teachings were still circulating within his mosque.

Al-Faisal, who has branded non-Muslims as “cockroaches” ripe for extermination, is serving a seven-year prison sentence but is eligible for early release next week.

Terror link of 'moderate' Muslims at London rally

The Muslim campaigners behind a mass rally in Trafalgar Square today have close links to Islamic terror groups, the Daily Mail can reveal.

Despite promoting itself as the 'moderate' voice of Islam, the Muslim Association of Britain includes a former military commander of Hamas, the Palestinian organisation behind dozens of suicide bombings in Israel.

The Association has also been described in Parliament as the British wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, the banned Egyptian group whose former members include Osama Bin Laden.

"It is not tenable for a group to support suicide bombings in another country while expecting to be seen as moderate in this country."

Mike Whine, of the Community Security Trust, which monitors anti-Semitic behaviour, said: 'The leading members have close links with the Muslim Brotherhood and have been active in anti-Jewish propaganda.

"We are worried about their increasing influence within the Muslim community." Azzam al-Tamimi - a Palestinian described yesterday by the MAB as one of its leading political thinkers - caused outrage 18 months ago when he told the BBC he would willingly carry out a suicide bombing in Israel.

"Sacrificing myself for Palestine is a noble cause," he said. "It is the straight way to pleasing God and I would do it if I had the opportunity."

In 2004, Dr Tamimi arranged for Egyptian preacher Yusuf al-Qaradawi to visit the UK despite his calls for homosexuals to be stoned to death and his suggestions that rape victims be punished if dressed "immodestly".

Hillary Clinton would make an excellent president, according to Meg Hirschberg, whose husband runs a hugely successful organic yoghurt company in New Hampshire: “She’s amazing and brilliant and smart and lovely.”

So that’s a vote for Clinton in 2008, then? Not at all. Hirschberg is thinking of backing Mark Warner, the former governor of Virginia, a likable, low-key, moderate Democrat who won a traditionally Republican state and, by all accounts, ran it competently. At this stage, it is enough of a recommendation.

“I don’t know a thing about him and I don’t care,” Hirschberg said last week as Warner listened to her husband explaining the finer points of organic farming. “I just want somebody with decent values who can win. It’s nothing to do with Hillary personally. It’s irrational and unfair, but she is polarising.”

So, we now know what makes Downies so incredibly stupid: they would vote for Howdy Doody, or Adolf Hitler, as long as this candidate can win.

Reid Aided Abramoff Clients, Records Show

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid wrote at least four letters helpful to Indian tribes represented by Jack Abramoff, and the senator's staff regularly had contact with the disgraced lobbyist's team about legislation affecting other clients.

The activities _ detailed in billing records and correspondence obtained by The Associated Press _ are far more extensive than previously disclosed. They occurred over three years as Reid collected nearly $68,000 in donations from Abramoff's firm, lobbying partners and clients.

Reid's office acknowledged Thursday having "routine contacts" with Abramoff's lobbying partners and intervening on some government matters _ such as blocking some tribal casinos _ in ways Abramoff's clients might have deemed helpful. But it said none of his actions were affected by donations or done for Abramoff.

"All the actions that Senator Reid took were consistent with his long- held beliefs, such as not letting tribal casinos expand beyond reservations, and were taken to defend the interests of Nevada constituents," spokesman Jim Manley said.

Ah - so, getting money from a crook is now "routine contacts" and "consistent with his long-held beliefs."

Imagine if a white politician who happened to marry a black wife ran for office, but whites asked about it said, "Vote for him? With the black wife? He probably has a black car, for all I know."

The blacks in the area, and around the country, would be outraged, and justifiably so. But black racism is fine. And the MSM is fine with it. Otherwise, these people would be slapped, and this racist of a reporter would lose his job.

NYT: Downies seeing Chances for Pickups in 2006 Slipping Away

The NYT, that bastion of liberalism which churns out more stories based on DNC press releases than their own news stories, is reporting that Downies are secretly saying that their chances of winning seats in Congress in the 2006 midterms are rapidly slipping away.

How could this happen? Because a party which wishes to win seats has to stand for something, not run on "the other guy sucks, so elect us." That didn't work for Downies since 1994, and it won't work this year.

Hmmm...what happened two months ago? The same NY Times broke the "terrorism surveillance" story - and Downies pounced quickly with "George W. Bush committed crimes bugging al Qaeda suspects" and "let's impeach him if we win control of the Congress."

As we have said before, despite any hesitation the American people have on the subject of NSA surveillance, they realize that President Bush is working to save them from Islamic terrorists. Mayor: New Orleans will seek aid from other nations

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Shortcomings in aid from the U.S. government are making New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin look to other nations for help in rebuilding his hurricane-damaged city.

Nagin, who has hosted a steady stream of foreign dignitaries since Hurricane Katrina hit in late August, says he may seek international assistance because U.S. aid has not been sufficient to get the city back on its feet.

"I know we had a little disappointment earlier with some signals we're getting from Washington but the international community may be able to fill the gap," Nagin said when a delegation of French government and business officials passed through on Friday to explore potential business partnerships.

Jordan's King Abdullah also visited New Orleans on Friday and Nagin said he would encourage foreign interests to help redevelop some of the areas hardest hit by the storm.

"France can take Treme. The king of Jordan can take the Lower Ninth Ward," he said, referring to two of the city's neighborhoods.

(a) A multitude of warnings from government officials of another domestic terrorism event have aired in the whore media.

(b) The new "bin Laden" speech threatening an eminent "muslim" terrorist attack more devastating than 9/11.

(c) Patriot Act II ready to be approved by congress. (Martial Law)

(d) Plenty of time to place "terrorist" weapons in the stadium to be remotely detonated on cue.

(e) This date, February 5, 2006, is an "11" day for the numerologists.

(f) The football League has cut ties with the nationally respected security firm it has used for the last 29 Super Bowls, and hired three smaller, less-experienced companies (Owned or controlled by Bush family members as in the World Trade Center on 9/11?)

(g) NORAD and other military entities are staging drills to "protect" Ford Field on Sunday, February 5, 2006. (Remember 9/11?)

(c) Tens of millions of people are watching the event "live" on television all over the planet!

III. The Benefits to the Criminals:

(c) Investigations of illegal spying on the American people scheduled to begin this week will be quickly dispensed with.

(d) The Patriot Act that expires on February 2, 2006 is guaranteed to be renewed, and Patriot Act 2, 3, 4 etc. would be passed.

(e) Congressional hearings on illegal wiretapping scheduled to begin February 6, 2006 will be cancelled or easily dismissed.

(f) A number of lawsuits, initiated by various citizen groups set to begin to enter the court system on February 6, 2006 against the Bushites, will be quickly and quietly eliminated.

(g) The re-cycling of an "obsolete" major city with huge profit potential for the "elite" is facilitated. *

IV. Immediate implementation of the Fourth Reich.

(a) Complete loss of all remaining freedoms of the people of the United States under martial law will result.

(b) All elections will be "Temporarily" suspended, and the establishment of a permanent group of criminals in power will be quickly accomplished.

One more example: nurses in the UK have voted to give "clean blades" to people who like to harm themselves so - get this one - they do not get diseases from diseased blades.

NURSES want patients who are intent on harming themselves to be provided with clean blades so that they can cut themselves more safely.

They say people determined to harm themselves should be helped to minimise the risk of infection from dirty blades, in the same way as drug addicts are issued with clean needles.

This could include giving the “self-harm” patients sterile blades and clean packets of bandages or ensuring that they keep their own blades clean. Nurses would also give patients advice about which parts of the body it is safer to cut.

The proposal for “safe” self-harm — which is to be debated at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Congress in April — is likely to provoke controversy.

At present nurses are expected to stop anyone doing physical harm to themselves and to confiscate any sharp objects ranging from razor blades to broken glass and tin cans.

What is it with progressives? Why do they feel the need to lie so relentlessly about who they are? Recently Rigoberta Menchú's autobiography was exposed as a complete hoax. Now it's Betty Friedan's turn to be revealed as a feminist fibber.

In a new book, "Betty Friedan and the Making of the Feminine Mystique", Smith College professor Daniel Horowitz (no relation) establishes beyond doubt that the woman who has always presented herself as a typical suburban housewife until she began work on her groundbreaking book was in fact nothing of the kind. In fact, under her maiden name, Betty Goldstein, she was a political activist and professional propagandist for the Communist left for a quarter of a century before the publication of "The Feminist Mystique" launched the modern women's movement.

Professor Horowitz documents that Friedan was from her college days, and until her mid-30s, a Stalinist Marxist, the political intimate of the leaders of America's Cold War fifth column and for a time even the lover of a young Communist physicist working on atomic bomb projects in Berkeley's radiation lab with J. Robert Oppenheimer. Her famous description of America's suburban family household as "a comfortable concentration camp" in "The Feminine Mystique" therefore had more to do with her Marxist hatred for America than with any of her actual experience as a housewife or mother. (Her husband, Carl, also a leftist, once complained that his wife "was in the world during the whole marriage," had a full-time maid and "seldom was a wife and a mother").

It is fascinating that Friedan not only felt the need to lie about her real views and life experience then, but still feels the need to lie about them now. Although Horowitz, the author of the new biography, is a sympathetic leftist, Friedan refused to cooperate with him once she realized he was going to tell the truth about her life as Betty Goldstein. After he published an initial article about Friedan's youthful work as a "labor journalist," Friedan maligned him, saying to an American University audience, "Some historian recently wrote some attack on me in which he claimed that I was only pretending to be a suburban housewife, that I was supposed to be an agent."

So, the biographer is a leftist, yet when he exposes a fellow leftist he is castigated. How interesting.

This is just more evidence that the left continues to remain delusional.

As for Friedan, let us hope she is now sweating in the hell reserved for her.

Breaking News: Downie Senate Leader Harry Reid Implicated in Abramoff Scandal

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is reporting tonight that Harry Reid, Really in the Minority Leader of the US Senate, shook down Indian tribes for campaign donations only if they hired disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

As Nancy Pelosi (D-Nutjob) says, "It must be that culture of corruption."

Tribes gave to Reid after hiring Abramoff

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada began receiving campaign contributions from at least four American Indian tribes only after they hired Jack Abramoff, Republicans charged this week in an effort to tie the Senate Democratic leader to the disgraced lobbyist.

On Thursday, Reid shrugged off questions about money he received from tribal clients of Abramoff, who pleaded guilty last month to three felonies after being accused of exchanging meals, travel and gifts for political favors.

"I've said that I received money from Indians in the past and will continue to do so," Reid said.

Asked what he would say about tribes who did not give him money until after hiring Abramoff, Reid said, "What I've said all along."

The National Republican Senatorial Committee this week revived a charge that Reid received more than $50,000 from four tribes with gaming interests between 2001 and 2004 after they hired Abramoff. The Nevadan had received no money from those tribes before then, Republicans said.

The donations included:

• $19,500 from the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians of California.

• $5,000 from the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana.

• $7,000 from the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

• $19,000 from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan.

"Harry Reid's ties to Jack Abramoff are too substantial for him to dismiss with Washington, D.C., denial and hypocritical accusations," Republican spokesman Tucker Bounds said.

As Downies continued to make hay over Abramoff, they demanded that any politician with ties to the lobbyist resign.

So, to meet the "high" standards of Downies, we are calling on Senator Harry Reid to step down and resign his US Senate seat tonight.

First, the two US Senators who represent Massachusetts disgraced themselves by trying to filibister Samuel Alito. Now, in-state politics there has reared its ugly head, as Downies are in complete meltdown mode in picking a gubernatorial slate for this year's election.

Downie Tom Reilly, the State Attorney General, picked liberal black State Representative Marie St. Fleur (that French name is a dead giveaway, isn't it?) as his running mate to be Lieutenant Governor if elected. Unfortunately, Reilly had his "Tom Eagleton Moment" when St. Fleur was exposed as a corrupt piece of crap one day after being picked, and had to step down.

BOSTON (AP) -- A day after gubernatorial candidate Attorney General Tom Reilly introduced her as his running mate, a state legislator on Wednesday abandoned her campaign for lieutenant governor amid revelations of tax and loan delinquency.

Democratic Rep. Marie St. Fleur reportedly owes the IRS more than $12,000 and failed to pay $40,000 in student loans. In December, she was barred from renewing her driver's license because she did not pay motor vehicle taxes in Boston last year, records reviewed by The Associated Press show.

Reilly, who did not attend St. Fleur's news conference, issued a statement saying he expected she would continue helping him with his campaign but that he would not seek another political partner.

"I will keep working to bring change to Massachusetts but will do so without a formal running mate. As I said before, there are many qualified Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor and I will be happy to serve with any of them."

In Massachusetts, candidates for governor and lieutenant governor appear on separate ballot lines for the fall primary, before being united for the November general election.

Reilly's top rival for the Democratic nomination, Deval Patrick, responded to the financial disclosures about St. Fleur with a statement that said he also had been delinquent on taxes.

More than a decade ago, Patrick said, he and his wife triggered an IRS lien by missing "one or two" payments in an installment agreement with the agency. He added that they paid the $8,788 they owed in full within five months.

So, now TWO Downies have been implicated in this IRS scandal! How wide does the net go? Who knows any more?
