Canada: Do as We Say, Not as We Do

The Left in America and around the world loves to poke fun at the United States over holding terrorists, whether in Guantanamo Bay or somewhere else. "How can you hold people without trial for indefinite periods?" the Left asks. "Why are you violating their human rights, these poor things?" is their standard horseshit moan.

The Left has always run by the mantra "do as we say, not as we do." Imagine our surprise when that mantra can be applied to this situation...because, as the Canadian government was bemoaning the death of civil liberties for terrorists in America and demanding trials and rights for these Islamic thugs, Canada was, well, holding a terrorist without trial and without charges - since 2001.

Oops.

Suspected Egyptian terrorist detained without charge still a threat: govt

TORONTO (CP) - A government lawyer says an Egyptian man detained for five years without charge should stay in jail because he poses a threat to national security.

Crown lawyer Donald MacIntosh told Federal Court that suspected terrorist Mahmoud Jaballah should be denied bail.

MacIntosh maintains that no conditions the court could impose would be sufficient to neutralize the risk posed by Jaballah.

The 43-year-old Jaballah has been in custody since August 2001 on an unprecedented second national security certificate.

The married father of six is trying to get bail for a third time.

Canada's spy service alleges that Jaballah has top level links to the terrorist organization Egyptian Islamic Jihad, and through it is connected to al-Qaida.

Jaballah rebuffed attempts to link him to terrorism and said innocent contacts he made over the years were being taken out of context.

The government wants to deport him back to Egypt, where Jaballah argues he will be tortured or killed.

The worst part of this story is that you will not find one American who is not a leftist demanding special rights for this terrorist wannabe. Normally a country would be called on the mat for such blatant hypocrisy. Unfortunately, the world is in a fight against Islamic extremism and we cannot afford to blast our allies for doing the same thing we have been doing even though they have criticized us at every turn.
