Liberal Imbecile Congressman Found Guilty of Using an Illegally Recorded Phone Call

Rep. Jim McDermott, the lying liberal thug from Washington State, used an illegally recorded phone call of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and current Majority Leader John Boehner in violation of the law. An Appeals court in DC upheld the damages of $700,000 against McDermott.

Court sides with Boehner on taped call

Washington - A federal appeals court on Tuesday sided with House Majority Leader John Boehner in a longtime dispute with a Democratic colleague who leaked a tape of an illegally recorded cell phone call to reporters.

The Democratic congressman, Rep. Jim McDermott of Washington state, said he was merely trying to get valuable information to the media. But Boehner's attorneys successfully convinced the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia that McDermott went too far when he distributed an audio tape that should never have even been recorded.

"Violating the law in pursuit of your political opponents is, in fact, against the law, and should not be tolerated," said Boehner, a Republican from West Chester and the first member of Congress to sue another. He said he filed the lawsuit to make the point that in politics, "there is a line beyond which you cannot go."

The lawsuit stemmed from a Dec. 21, 1996, phone call between Boehner and Republican Party leaders, including then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, that involved strategy on how to handle an expected House Ethics Committee reprimand to Gingrich.

A couple in Florida, where Boehner was vacationing, illegally picked up his conversation on a police scanner, taped it, and gave it to McDermott, who distributed it to the media. The couple were fined $500 for eavesdropping.

Two of the three judges who reviewed the case filed an opinion that affirmed a lower court decision that ordered McDermott to pay Boehner more than $700,000 in legal fees and damages. They said McDermott knew the tape was obtained illegally and shouldn't have distributed it.

Now, imagine if McDermott was a Republican and the court nailed him. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and every other Downie dickwad would be on tv stating how this was part of the "culture of corruption" in GOP-led DC, and Keith Dimbulbermann and Wolf Blintzes would be having hour-long programs on this newsworthy story.

But since McDermott is a Downie, the story gets buried on page A20, behind the obituaries.
