Aaron Broussard: How He Screwed His Own Constituents
Aaron Broussard, the President of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, became nationally famous several weeks back when he went on Meet the Press and cried about how someone's mother called and called and called and called and asked to be rescued before she "drowned" - despite the fact that the entire story was a complete lie. Then, Broussard went back on MTP and when confronted that the story was a lie, took umbrage that his motives were being questioned when he was busily trying to help his constituents.
Well, it turns out that Mr. Broussard wasn't helping his constituents - he was fucking them over, oh so badly.
It seems that before the hurricane struck, Broussard yanked all of the people operating the pumps which keep his area free of flood waters, and never brought them back, leading to massive flooding.

A sense of outrage and disbelief is growing in Jefferson Parish at the decision by Parish President Aaron Broussard's administration to evacuate drainage pump operators the day before Hurricane Katrina flooded southeast Louisiana on Aug. 29, according to extensive interviews with residents this week.
They are frustrated that they didn't know of the plan beforehand, stunned that the pump operators weren't returned to their posts for more than 24 hours and anxious that parish officials have been slow, in their view, to justify the decision in light of the ensuing destruction.
But mostly they are mad.
"This wasn't an act of God. It was an act of stupidity, and we're the little guys now stuck between the parish and the insurance companies," said Danny Callahan of Metairie. "We are the ones who have to pay for the decisions politicians make.
"Higher insurance rates, deductibles, financial ruin. I don't want any politician deciding what they think is best for me. When he pays the mortgage on my house or takes my place in filing for bankruptcy, then he can make the decisions."
