New Conspiracy Theory: Bush Caused the Pope to Die

If one listens to liberals long enough, one will hear conspiracy theories for everything from why Hitler came to power to how 9/11 occurred - and they will make sure George W. Bush is somehow responsible for all of it. Their twisted thinking leads them to turn the most inane story into a conspiracy; for instance, did you know that Karl Rove contacted Usama bin Laden and got him to make a videotape days before the 2004 election so that John Kerry would lose the election? That is the liberal explanation for why bin Laden released his tape which probably did cost Kerry the presidency. And before you say "well, these stories come from delusional people. They are NOT in the mainstream," you should know that the Rove/video story comes from no less a doofus luminary than Walter Cronkite. So much for "not in the mainstream." Maybe not in the American mainstream, but definitely in the pantheon of Downie mainstream lunacy.

So, it comes as no surprise that a German leftwing looniepie now believes and is peddling the following crackpot story: that George W. Bush exposed the Church pedophile scandal to weaken an already sickened Pope John Paul II because the Pope opposed the war in Iraq. Understand this logic? And somehow by this, Bush got Poland to send troops to Iraq. Now, if you can follow this, good luck to you:

Trans-Atlantic Conspiracy Theory Du Jour

She may not be the country's most powerful politician, but as the vice-president of the Bundestag, Germany's parliament, Antje Vollmer of the Green Party is one of its highest-ranking women in political office. When she talks, people listen. But last week we were a little baffled when we saw her shameless contribution to the growing canon of anti-American conspiracy theories and baseless analogies circulating in Germany.

First, in Sept. 2002, then-Justice Minister Herta Däubler-Gmelin compared George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler. Then came Andreas von Buelow, the former federal education and research minister whose 2003 conspiracy theory alleging the CIA and Israeli intelligence were responsible for the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington made for a best-selling book. Now Vollmer comes along, implying that the US government chose to draw attention to the Catholic pedophilia scandal not because of the crimes in and of themselves, but because Washington wanted to weaken the pope.

The dumb liberals will probably hold this woman up as the example of rational thought. It provides all the more proof that liberals should not be in power anywhere.
