Four Canadian Mounties Killed during a Raid on a Marijuana Farm

It is sad when law enforcement officers are killed, especially in the line of duty. However, in reading this story, I asked myself a question: "Myself, isn't it a fact that marijuana is virtually legal in Canada? And if so, Myself, why were these Mounties raiding a marijuana farm in the first place?"

Manitoba Mounties mourn fallen comrades

WINNIPEG – RCMP officers from Manitoba will attend the funerals of the four officers who were shot to death in Alberta on Thursday.

The officers died in a gun battle on an alleged marijuana grow operation northwest of Edmonton.

Let me get this straight: the Canadian government looks the other way (wink wink) at the growing and use of marijuana, turning a country of potheads into actual potheads. So how come the Mounties were raiding an "alleged" pot farm? Would the government raid a rutabega farm if rutabegas were legal? Of course not.

So, it begs the question: Didn't these dead Mounties violate Canadian law by cracking down on a farmer growing a product which the Canadian government says is virtually legal?
